BackgroundLao People’s Democratic Republic has frequent outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD). This study aimed to determine susceptibility and exposure VPD in Saravan, a rural province with high ethnic diversity some the poorest health indicators nationwide.MethodsPatients from three district hospitals one provincial hospital were enrolled. Serum was tested by ELISA for IgG against hepatitis B virus (HBV), tetanus, diphtheria, measles, rubella.ResultsThe enrolled 2463 participants aged 5–90 years. Exposure HBV 33.2% increased age up 62.4% those >50 surface antigen prevalence 5.7% males 2.4% females; 9.9% had serology compatible vaccination. Seroprevalence protective anti-tetanus antibodies 46.3% overall. Protective anti-diphtheria seroprevalence 40.5%. Anti-measles 16.7% 5–10 years 97.7% Anti-rubella 93.0% There differences seroprevalences between sex, districts ethnicity.ConclusionsRoutine infant vaccination needs strengthening order close immunity gaps. High burden infection should be addressed increasing birth dose vaccine coverage. Regional need investigated enable targeted approach
